Sleep No More

Daddy and I went to see Sleep No More in NYC last night. What an amazing crazy show.  I've never experienced anything quite like it.  Before I get into the details, I should warn you that it's better to see this show without knowing anything about it and I'm going to be sharing some spoilers. I would send you with this piece of advice though....follow the actors VERY closely....interact with them and you'll have a very personal, very unique experience. Fortune favors the bold.

Tom and I arrive a little early so we decide to go the restaurant associated with the theater. We take a dark elevator run by a well dressed operator to the restaurant upstairs. We step out of the elevator and into the 1930s. There are telephone booths lining one wall and a newspaper stand situated in the corner. We walk down the hall and onto a platform next to a train. Each car houses a couple of tables and chairs. On the opposite side of the train is the restaurant. The room is smoky, the lights are low, and there's a jazz band playing on a small stage. Tom and I sip on our drinks at the bar and watch as a lovely lady clad in white walks around entertaining the guests with card tricks and fortune telling.

The bar is getting busy so Tom and I head back to the street to find the entrance to the theater. It turns out to be the back entrance of an old warehouse. The only indication that we're in the right spot is the small gold plaque with the thistle motif. After checking into the hotel and giving up all of our possessions, we head down a narrow dark hallway lit only by candles and into a bar where we're offered absinthe.

A man beckons us into the corner where we are given masks and told not to talk from this point forward. The audience wears white masks, stewards wear black masks, and the actors wear none. We all pile into an elevator and it makes it's ascent. When the elevator stops, a woman gets off and we try to follow but we are unexpectedly held back as the doors close and we continue our journey. "It is best you travel alone for the rest of the evening," the host says.

When the doors open, we walk into an empty hall. Everyone takes off in different directions. I begin my own exploration, thoroughly examining everything that I come upon. There is room after room of things that just don't make sense. There's a room full of bathtubs, a baby's crib surrounded with headless dolls, the lobby of a hotel, a cemetery, a street with shops lining it, a forest, a stone garden, a ballroom....and the list goes on covering 6 floors worth of space. I pick up books, little scraps of paper, and open all of the drawers. All of these things are clues about what's going on. A sentence is underlined, a page is dog eared, a note is scribbled on paper. I notice a word puzzle carved into several pieces of furniture. I don't know what it means.

I hear some scuffling so I follow the sound through a maze of boxes into a billiard room. A group of men are playing an intense game of cards. Every now and then, one of them stands up dramatically with a card in his hand and loudly nails it to the wall with a hammer before taking a shot of alcohol. Suddenly, I hear shouting coming from the other room so I run to investigate. I find myself in an uncomfortable situation, standing face to face, just inches away from a fiery eyed man covered in blood. After what feels like an eternity, we break eye contact, and he barges into the room that I just came from. A fight erupts between him and another man. They start throwing each other into the walls and over the tables. Eventually they end up behind the bar and one of them is murdered with a brick. The murderer storms out into the alley and stops. A woman comes running towards him and the two of them kiss passionately and then run off into the shadows. I try to follow them but I lose them in the crowd so I continue perusing the different rooms.

The night continues like this....happening across a scene and then chasing after the actors as they continue their story in another part of the hotel. I see a pregnant woman being offered an addictive drink over and over in various scenes. She seems crazy and often mutters about mothers of the world. I see a man and a woman having an intimate unsettling quarrel that goes from loving to angry and back again. I see a man digging in the graveyard and another man dancing in the stone garden. I see the maid covering a dozen clocks in cloth. I see a man examining a dead bird over a bible. I see a man and a woman dancing with a door between them. I see lots of passionate, heart felt kissing between different couples. The pregnant woman lights a candle at an alter. The king gets a shave from a man that he's not sure he can trust. He is eventually hanged by a group of 3 men. Tom sees an orgy involving a goat head. He is also privy to a private show of 2 men fighting behind a locked door.

At the end of the night, I didn't know what was going on. I started feeling a bit frantic and was finding it difficult not to talk. It was definitely a test of mental stamina. I'd describe it as a social or human experiment. What will you do when you get put into a situation that doesn't follow society's rules? When you have anonymity and freedom to do as you please? Will you join the actors when they flirt with you and motion for you to join them in a drink? If you do, fortune will favor you. I have heard stories of the wonderful adventures that come from being bold with the actors.

I want to go again. After seeing the show once, I have a better understanding of what they mean when they say "Fortune favors the bold." Next time, I would be a little more intrusive. This show was erotic, violent, confusing, shocking, interesting, immersive, and unlike anything I've ever experienced before. It really is more of an experience than a show. It was like running around in someone's nightmare. It was another world. I'm finding it hard to let it go.

If you want to get a sense of the confusion, watch this:

If you want more, this guy does an excellent job of explaining the experience, but be aware that there are many spoilers:

Starting 2014

Where am I now? Tom, his wife, and I are looking at buying a house in the greater Albany area. We've been looking at houses for a couple of months now and we've found the one. We're in the final stages of figuring stuff out before we make an offer on the place. The nice thing about this place is that we'll have enough room for a play space and sleepover space. Our neighbors are pretty far away so they won't be a bother and there's lots of parking. Looking forward to entertaining. :-D

This house is awesome. It's a duplex with 3 large bedrooms, 2 full baths, and a half bath on each side. There's a big living room with fireplace, a dining room, an office, and a useable basement space on each side. It sits on .75 acres of land with a 4 car garage. We plan on having raised garden beds, lilac trees, wildflowers, maybe quail and/or pheasants (since chickens aren't allowed), and a fire pit. It's really amazing.

I'm in the middle of interviews for a job at RPI, which would give me a pretty good schedule and about the same amount of money that I'm making now. The most important thing is that it will allow me to live in Albany again. This living in 2 different places thing is getting old. It will also allow me to take classes at RPI for 80% off. Still not sure what degree I'd go for but it's a start knowing that I could go to school there. I have interview #2 tomorrow and if I make it through that round, there will be one more interview.

Tom and I have decided not to go to Arisia, the Fetish Flea, or Camp Crucible this year. We need to save the money for the house. We're uncertain about FetFest at this point but we know that we'll continue doing the Invasions and I'm looking into doing a small scale weekend long littles event.

Speaking of littles events....our next Invasion at The Society is going to be February 15th! It's going to be Valentine's Day themed. We'll decorate cookies and read Valentine's Day themed stories along with all of the other usual stuff that we do like playing games and coloring. The Invasions seem to be getting better and better. I've started changing diapers for the little goys and girls who come. It gives me such a great feeling of joy to know that I can fulfill that desire for someone who's never had it done for them before. There have been a lot of new people lately too, which is always nice to see. I just hope they keep coming back!

2013 Year in Review

It has been quite a long time since I've posted here. Life has been busy and a bit emotionally challenging this past year.

In January, I moved back to VT. There were questions about whether or not my dream of having children would be possible with the poly situation that I was in so I needed some time to work that out. I moved back in with my mom in VT while I figured things out and paid off some school debt. Managed to get my old job back at the hospital and was promoted within the first month. That was a really great thing for me. I've been doing very well in this position and I love my job.

Unfortunately, my mom decided that she didn't like me being poly and thought that she was enabling me so she asked me to leave in September. My Dad and sisters also jumped on the judgmental bandwagon and gave me a hard time. I stayed strong though because I'm very happy with who I am and what I do. Eventually that all died down and we all became mostly friends again.

Tom and I went to Camp Crucible after skipping a year. It was awesome to come back. We met a lot of new people and had a lot of fun. I was kidnapped by "Team Groundhog." My request was to be taken down repeatedly throughout the week, which is exactly what happened. It was always unexpected...so much so that there were one or two times when I didn't even realize that I was being kidnapped until afterwards! At the end of it all, I was gang banged by a group of people....forced to love the "dick on a stick" and suck on someone's giant purple dong. I was serenaded to the tune of "dirty little whore," which was later sung to me by the entire camp at supper. Absolutely humiliating and wonderful! It was perfect!

Camp was also made special by repeated sightings of the infamous Woozle. Only the littles could see the woozle as he wreaked havoc around camp, causing trouble and blaming us. One lucky lady was ravished by the beast. Eventually we all went on a woozle hunt, captured the creature and roasted him on the BBQ for all to see at the pony show. Everyone was given a taste of the woozle, which was offered up hot dog style.

I did a hook suspension at Camp, something I've been wanting to do for a very long time. This experience was amazing. The hooks hurt less than I expected them to. The actual suspension hurt more than I was expecting it to. There was no way to prepare for it really. There were 2 things that made it especially difficult. Number one, it's unnatural to take your feet off the ground and expect to stay upright so your brain doesn't make it easy for you to do. I'm thinking that it might be easier to walk OFF of something next time rather than just be lifted up. Number 2, it's unnatural for you to be moving and unbalanced when you're not supported in some way. I immediately felt sick to my stomach as soon as I was off the ground. Perhaps it was the endorphin rush. I've felt sick before during needle play. Perhaps it was the fact that I had no control over my movement. Regardless, it was an amazing feeling and I hope to do it again. I hope that I'm a bit thinner the next time I do it. I think that the pain will be easier to handle if there's less of it and less weight will equal less pain.

I decided to take the title of "Mayor of Bouncy Town" last minute for FetFest. I managed to organize almost 4 days worth of activities in 2 short months and we had a blast. Thank you to all who brought additional activities to share! It wouldn't have been the same without you. We had face painting, a glow in the dark parade, casual conversation-style classes, cake pop decorating, bubbles galore, a lube pool and slip n slide, a food fight, lots of arts and crafts, fun in the pool, movie nights, smores and drumming around the fire, and a dance party. The real fun was in the connections made between people though. I cried when we left Bouncy Town. It was such a wonderful feeling to be so connected to so many great people. There were definitely some issues with communication between the staff and organizer of FetFest, some of which still remain unsolved, but it was worth it. Now the question is, should I do 2014 or not?

Last but not least, I ran a few Invasions. There weren't as many as in years past due to communication and scheduling issues but the ones that we did have were fantastic! At one of them we had face painting and a messy art project (thanks to Doc). We've done diaper decorating and LOTS of diaper changes, which seems to be something that everyone enjoys. We've done cuddle piles, rock band, card games, and tag. Hopefully this event continues to grow and get better and better.

On to 2014!!!
